Caret
Caret is often used synonymously with Cursor. However Caret is the indicator where typed text will be inserted or will overwrite. The caret character was typically an editors mark (^) showing where a correction should be inserted.
Cursor
Cursor and Caret are often used synonymously. The Cursor is a mark to signify some action other than text insertion. For example there is a CopyCursor (engaged by Shift - Copy) which indicates where text will be copied from when the Copy key is used.
