Thanks. Food for thought. Google is not exactly favourite!
However the Google search works and it can do sub-sections of the site, as
in http://genealogy.torrens.org/search.html
I can see how your script can be modified to do that.
My preferred search engine is https://lite.qwant.com/ which needs the same
sort of search string.
So two questions for all listers:

Which search engine should I use?
Do you want a switch for whole site (including email archives) or just
stronged.torrens.org/man/ ?
