No.  If you think about SE colouring foobar% or foobar$, the trailing
character is coloured as part of the id.  But "%" and "$" are only
valid as last characters, you can't have a variable name like ab$c.

With URLs, if you have one that happens to be followed by an ">" then
the ">" is treated as part of it.
