I never thought of looking in Global Functions for information about what
a menu does.

Got it.
If a mode is known, changing a file will update the mode.
(or will after the bug is fixed!).
If a mode is new, a rescan will add it to the list.
I still think 'Update list' is more obvious than 'Rescan Modes'.
Thanks - Zap no longer runs by default, and I now mostly use SE, so
progress is being made!
