I'm glad now that I persisted with this, even though some of my 
messages didn't seem to make sense. I've downloaded the new NeXTBar 
version (I didn't know about it) and managed to get my registration 
data and settings copied from the old version. I don't see the 
"Instructions" in the Help file mentioned by Fred, but that's 
presumably as my copy is registered. What happens here now is that if 
I look at NeXTBar's help file before any other help file, it works; if 
I look at any other Help file and then try to look at NeXTBar's the 
crash happens.

I've discovered, to my surprise, that I can open a Help file, but I 
have no idea how to replace the faulty sprite file with a valid one. 
Any ideas, please? Will any old sprite file do? :-)

Is there a way, other than replacing the faulty sprite file in 
NeXTBar's help file of preventing the crash? I imagine not. Anyway,
