And it's leaving me stumped. I cannot think of anything that might cause

What about LoF lines, do they highlight when the pointer is over them?
LoF and throwback window handling is very similar so I'd expect the same
behaviour.

It sounds as if StrongED thinks the pointer is in a different location
from where it really is. Why that would be is the big question.

Possible, yes, but unlikely. It works fine for me and I haven't had any
bug reports relating to this. That said, the way highlighting works has
been changed considerably from 4.69 to honour a user request so it may
be that something isn't right. Can't see though why only you would be
affected.

Just out of curiosity, what do you use TextSeek for?
When I need to search through textfiles I just drop them all in StrongED
and hit F2.
