It's going to depend on what features are required. For most things 4.69
and 4.70a11 are on par but there are differences. For example 4.69 only
allows bitmap fonts that are 8 pixels wide, 4.70a11 allows widths up to
32 pixels.
Handling of BASIC files has been altered too, and I'm not entirely happy
with the changes in 4.70a11 TBH.

The 'alpha' nature is more in that new features are still volatile and
may be changed or even removed in the next release.

Yes, that would be best. Due to the changes to bitmap fonts the font
names are stored differently, 'System' (4.69) vs 08x16.System (4.70a11).
There are some more that I don't recall immediately but the result is
that the choices will differ and that may cause some problems.
