Thanks David, for a very clear bug report. The same happens here so I
should be able to fix this. If you spot this happening under any other
circumstances then please let me know.

It looks like the caret isn't turned off before an area is redrawn. It
has to be as the bar caret is taller than a line, and redraw is done on
a per line basis.

Now it's "just" a matter of finding out where to hide/restore the caret.
