If the first line is selected then Menu > Block > Process > Indent
should move the whole selection to the right by a specified number of
characters. Personal view is that the caret position shouldn't make any
difference.
In practice the user must specify an indent value. This is quite
easily missed so it might be better to have a default of say 5 rather
than 0. An unfamiliar user may ignore the indent value and assume it
doesn't work.
