Ahhhhhhh!

I think you've given me sufficient clues in the above to work it out.

I tried holding the second click and sure enough it then sent jpeg files
into SE every time. Now knowing that it's the speed of the second release
that is the deciding factor, the feature becomes a positive and not the
pain it was before. In addition I think it may be the "Mauser" module I
load at boot time.
