'Double click and hold' mimics Shift-double click if you hold down
the second click briefly. This allows you to open applications and
load non-text files without having to reach for the Shift key.

StrongED used to have support for 'Double click and hold' built in.
There was also a module called DoubleTake that offered this option.

In 2002 there was some discussion on this list about problems with
'Double click and hold', both StrongED and DoubleTake had, different,
issues. Also, it was felt that having this in StrongED wasn't really
the right place for it.

Because of this, I fixed the issues with DoubleTake and one of the
DoubleTake authors granted permission to release an updated version
under the GPL. 'Double click and hold' was then removed from StrongED.

Although the updated version of DoubleTake behaves almost exactly like
a normal Shift-double click, it's not perfect and having it in the Filer
itself would be better. So when the sources to RISC OS became available
I added support for 'Double click and hold' to the Filer (RO 5.14).

Hopefully this makes it clear what 'Double click and hold' does and how
it relates to StrongED.

To find out if your problem is caused by 'Double click and hold' simply
double click on a jpeg and hold down the second click. If the file now
loads into StrongED then it's down to 'Double click and hold'. Tony has
already shown you how to remove DoubleTake.

Cheers,
Fred.
