Exactly. This can also be seen when saving a file "TextFile" if there's
already a file with that name in today's directory. Saving to Transient
causes the file already present to be renamed to "Textfile~1". Saving to
the Filer window directly will overwrite the file already present.

The file already present will be renamed, not the newly saved one. So
"TextFile" is the most recent copy and "Textfile~N" is the oldest.
