I am highly impressed by Fred's ability in remote diagnosis, but 
knowing Fred's skill, maybe I shouldn't be. That was exactly the 
problem, and curing it has now made things happen as they should.

No warning window, but, curiouser and curiouser, doing the replacing 
of the ^Select line has cured the bleep too.
