[StrongED] XML Mode - addition for DOCX viewing
XML Mode version 1.02 is available from;
http://www.timebus.co.uk/riscos/semodes/index.htm
Why this new version of the XML mode?
RISC OS has no way of viewing files saved in Microsoft Open XML format
(/docx) as used by Word 2007. Easiwriter can only cope with files
saved in the older Word formats (/doc).
What does this version of the XML mode do that's new?
Provides a menu function to add a limited range of rudimentary (and
deprecated, I'm afraid!) HTML tags to an existing document/xml file.
It also has interactive help for the new function, and the
pre-existing syntax colouring groups are now named in the mode choices
dialogue.
Limitations
This is a very basic way of seeing simple text formatting only, a bit
like an RTF file but even simpler.
It will not convert tables, figures or pictures, styles or tabs. It
won't convert fonts or text colours (although these latter I may have
been able to add if I had spent more time).
It is a cludge only to be used for quick viewing and not recommended
for word processing or sending on documents to others. Do not attempt
to feed an altered document/xml back into Word.
How to use the new function
Files with /docx extensions are really archives. They can be opened by
dragging them onto SparkFS for example. Open the 'word' directory
within and shift-click on document/xml to load into StrongED. Change
to XML mode if it was not automatically selected. Select 'DOCX add
HTML tags' from the XML menu. The altered file can then be saved
elsewhere, filetyped as HTML. It can be viewed with Easiwriter. It can
also be viewed in Netsurf but this does not work as well.
Feedback
I have very little time to spend on this project so apologise if there
is a delay before I reply to any follow ups to this posting.
