thanks for that - I didn't know that trick.
However, although useful it is not what I am looking for in this case.
I need to delete the newline character at the end of the line so that
the next line is appended to the line the cursor is on.
This is the normal behaviour for forward delete when you are at the
end of a line - unless you tick the box to stop it happening. So what
I am looking for is a key combination to overide the setting when
required.
